It's a question that transferees must ask no matter who they are or where they are moving: "Will my family be safe?" The answer comes in the form of one very telling fact – Naperville is one of only four communities in the world that has both accredited Police and Fire Departments. That means that the national accrediting organizations, which stringently judge the performance of fire and police departments, have determined that Naperville is among the best. In
addition, the recently accredited TelecommunicationsDepartment makes Naperville the only US city to be accredited in all three services.

Another important fact tells Naperville's story of safety. Naperville has one of the lowest crime rates in the country for cities of 100,000 or more. The Naperville Police Department is very proud of this distinction, and takes a proactive approach to crime prevention. Community education and outreach, welleducated and well-trained officers, constant monitoring of trends and state of the art facilities are among the reasons that Naperville residents can feel safe at all hours of the day.

Naperville residents also enjoy a high level of protection from the Naperville Fire Department. With eight operational stations located strategically throughout the City and one more, soon to be completed, the Naperville Fire Department sets the standard. Because of its efficiency, Naperville's insurance rating is consistently improving and is currently a Class 2.

The Naperville Fire Department is manned 24 hours per day and operates eight front-line engines, six paramedic ambulances, three ladder trucks and one specialized rescue/squad vehicle. Naperville was the first community in the state to equip all of its fire engines with advanced life-support paramedic equipment. In addition, the Emergency Management Agency is prepared for any type of disaster and assists the City with a sophisticated emergency communication system using the city-owned A.M. radio and cable television stations.
