City Services

Select a Service Type:

Under the direction of a Mayor, an eight-member City Council and a City Manager, outstanding city services are delivered to the more than 142,000 Naperville residents with exemplary efficiency. Naperville is among the fastest growing cities with a population of 100,000 or above, according to the U.S. Census report. This is both a distinction and a challenge to which city officials and employees have consistently risen. In order to maintain a balanced community, Naperville
planners carefully drafted a comprehensive master plan, which specifies optimum land use.

With dozens of awards to show for its efficiency and reliability, the City of Naperville provides its residents with water, wastewater and electric services. Naperville operates the second largest municipally owned electric system in Illinois. City-owned service means faster and more direct response to customer concerns and emphasis on long-range community goals. The City of Naperville purchases Lake Michigan water from the DuPage County Water Commission, and wastewater is treated at the city's award-winning Springbrook Water Reclamation Center.

Resource removal and recovery are a high priority to Naperville officials and residents. At almost 85 percent participation, Naperville has one of the highest recycling rates in the nation. Besides typical refuse and recycling services, which include garbage, paper, aluminum, plastic, landscape materials, and brush and leaf pick-up, the City operates a household hazardous-waste disposal center. The Social Services Division offers a wide variety of information and referral to its residents. Among the information available is a comprehensive computer-based list of licensed child-care providers. To access Social Services' information and referral, call (630) 420-6001. In addition, the Community Career Center assists local job seekers. Services available include skill-building seminars, a job bank, general office equipment use, Internet access, personal assistance, computer training, resume writing and job clubs. All services are offered free to the public. For more information about the Community Career Center, call (630) 961-5665. With all these outstanding services, Naperville still has one of the lowest property taxes in the Chicago metropolitan area and the lowest water and electrical rates in DuPage County. The City of Naperville has a Aaa/AAA bond rating by Moody's and Standard & Poor's Ratings Groups signifying its strong financial position.

The City's website, located at www.naperville.il.us provides up-to-date information that is pertinent to residents, complete with on-line permit information, available job positions and more. The City also operates a government access cable TV station (Ch. 6), an AM radio station (WPFP 1610-AM), a 24-hour telephone information service (630) 420-6700 (Naperlink) and produces a resident newsletter and a Resident's Guide for our new neighbors.
